During this period Skiathos was attackedby many pirates and the Byzantium could not helped.Life in Skiathos became very difficult, people were forced to abandon theirhouses and find somewhere safer in the island.When Ottomans conquered Byzantium in 1453, Skiathos’ population asked Venetians to take over the island because they believed this could save them from pirate raids.
